The Material Control Manager oversees inventory management, supply chain operations, and production scheduling to ensure smooth material flow across various plants. This role requires coordinating across different functions, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), standardising processes, and controlling costs to enhance production efficiency and ensure material availability.
Inventory & Supply Chain Management:
- Manage daily material flow and inventory levels to ensure adequate stock for production while minimising excess inventory
- Analyse and manage inventory KPIs such as Inventory Turnover (INV), Days of Supply (DSI), and Stock Level Management (SLM) to improve efficiency
- Implement inventory control strategies, including FIFO/FEFO, safety stock planning, and warehouse optimisation
- Collaborate with logistics and warehouse teams to ensure smooth material handling
Production & Scheduling Management:
- Lead daily production scheduling meetings, reviewing production plans, shipment status, and Manufacturing Order (MO) closure rates.
- Ensure alignment between production plans, customer demand, and material availability.
- Work with production teams to resolve production line disruptions and minimise downtime caused by material shortages.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Issue Resolution:
- Liaise with multiple departments (production, procurement, logistics, finance) to resolve supply chain and material flow issues.
- Track and address production line stoppages due to material shortages, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
- Act as the key communication point between different plant locations for material movement and allocation.
Process Standardisation & Continuous Improvement:
- Define and implement standardised material control workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce errors
- Establish and document departmental work processes and guidelines to ensure smooth operations
- Drive process improvements using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
KPI Monitoring & Reporting:
- Review and analyse department KPIs, ensuring targets are met and deviations are addressed
- Prepare and present monthly material control reports with insights and recommendations for management
- Lead annual work planning and KPI definition for the Production Material Control (PMC) department
Team Management & Development:
- Train and mentor department personnel, ensuring operational efficiency and skills development
- Conduct performance evaluations and establish improvement plans for team members
- Allocate resources and manpower planning based on production demands
Cost & Budget Control:
- Manage departmental budget, ensuring cost-effective operations
- Implement cost reduction initiatives without compromising production efficiency
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in material control, inventory management, or production scheduling in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent)
- Experience in the automotive or electronics manufacturing industry preferred
- Familiarity with KPI metrics (INV, DSI, SLM), Lean Manufacturing, and JIT (Just-In-Time) principles
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills
- Proven leadership experience in managing teams and improving operational efficiency
- Ability to handle multiple plant locations and complex supply chain operations
- Fluency in English is required
- Strong knowledge of industry standards such as IATF 16949 is preferred
- Willingness to openly communicate with teams across different countries
